I belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
A very nice lady knocked on our door tonight. She was from a neighborhood baptist church and the first words out of her mouth were "Hi, I go to Temple Baptist church and was wondering if you have a congregation that you attend?" She was not ready for what hit her. "Oh yes, I go to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Have you heard of it?!" A worried look on her face, "Yes" and she hands me a couple of fliers and asks me to read them. Me? More prepared this time since they also came by a couple of weeks ago (the same lady...she obviously didn't remember our previous conversation)...I reply "Sure, I'd be happy to read them. Can I give you a Book of Mormon?" A REALLY worried look comes across her face. "Okay." I go to get one for her. Dave helps me search through a stack of things. We have about 5 spanish ones but I can't find an english one. I keep looking for something...surely we have a pass along card or one of the many brochures I am constantly coming across when I am cleaning. Can't find one. Seriously? 5 spanish books and lots of spanish brochures? Do we even speak spanish?! (Dave got them for his coworkers.) Alas, Dave finds an english BOM. I come back to the door, thankful that she hasn't left! I hand it to her and asked if she has ever read it. "Oh no, I believe that our Bible is the only bible." "Oh we believe in the same bible. This is the Book of Mormon and it's an accompaniment to the bible. It's about Jesus Christ when he visited the Americas. Did you know he visited the Americas?" "No, HE says in the bible that we shouldn't add to the bible." Without writing my lengthy reply (actually it wasn't that long but too long to write), I briefly explained about the Book of Revelations where that is stated. She started to argue back. I wasn't looking for a debate and we were in the middle of dinner and I could tell she was really starting to panic (she probably thinks she's going to hell for even accepting the book which I'm sure will end up in the trash). She was heading out as I bore testimony to her that I know that book is true and that I hope she'll take the time to read it. To that she replied once again that we shouldn't add to the bible. I graciously bid her a good evening and that was it. Honestly? The first time I have EVER done that. The first time I have ever felt bold enough to offer a BOM and my testimony to a complete stranger who obviously was appalled by it. But I felt good anyways. And I felt the spirit as I bore my testimony to her and it felt good. And I'm glad that my children were there and saw and heard everything. Maybe she'll forget again that she came here and come again in another couple of weeks. And then I can pick up where we left off. Probably not huh?!

that is awesome Holly!!! I got chills reading it!
Thats awesome, way to go Holly!!!
How awesome to be able to do what you meant to do instead of just wishing you'd done it afterwards. Wow, wow, wow! Good job.
Great job Holly! I have to say I have such a testimony of handing out book of Mormons...You never know when that Book of Mormon will wind up in that Lady's daughters hands or a bum on the street and change their life forever! Much better given then sitting on our tables at home! Way to go!
That is so awesome!!!!! I hope I am that brave some day. You never know, some day she may pick up the BOM and may have a light bulb moment. That will probably scare her more. I've seen that light bulb moment scare someone.
Wow! That's impressive. I'm glad you did that. Who knows, maybe she wont throw it away, but keep it hidden somewhere.. wouldn't it be cool if one day when she needs it most, she finds it!
It's hard to do what you did, but I love how you handled it. Thanks for sharing this post!
you planted the seed...good job!
What a neat little encounter! It reminded me of my mission in the middle of baptist country. I actually had several people refuse to even touch the B of M when I tried to give it to them. Maybe they thought they would get struck by lightning! I'm sure your kiddos will remember what you did and you never know what will happen with that Book of Mormon! You're awesome! I miss you by the way! We don't talk enough!
Way to go Holly!! We had someone come just yesterday but I didn't go as far as you and I will regret it forever. He was super nice and I should have said more. Your rock!!
