After hearing me talk about yet another frustration with public school, today Ella says "That's it. After this field trip, I am SO done with Parkway! Then I am going to homeschool!" Nice! It's the first time she has expressed a desire to be hometaught (even after I explained that she wouldn't get to be with a classroom full of kids and have lunch and recess with them. She happily said that's okay because after homeschool she could play with her brother and sister.) But I love that this condition comes AFTER the field trip! Way to get those priorities straight my love!
So, this is probably opening a can of worms...do any of you ever consider homeschooling?

I HAVE actually thought about it. There are several moms here that do it. HOWEVER, everytime I think about it, I don't feel good about it. I think it's an individual decision and Heavenly Father knows what is best for each child. I try to suppliment things at home that I don't think they are getting at school. . so we sort of do both right now! :) Good luck with the decision. :)
wobraactually now that I am subbing and see kids in a variety of classrooms I think about it all the time. It's not the teachers or school that is bad, but the kids! The things that come out of their mouths and their horrible actions, make me think twice about homeschooling!
We've actually homeschooled Kyrie from the beginning for a variety of reasons. Each one would have been enough on its own, though. I definitely agree that it's a decision each family needs to make for themselves but I think most people don't ever really thoroughly consider it fully. (This is not aimed at anyone in particular or anything.) If you're interested in some resource suggestions or just wanted to chat about it, I'd be happy to share our experience with you, Holly. My email is siouxsie.eli@gmail.com. And btw, your kids are just adorable. Miss Ella is a hoot!
Yep. I'm planning on homeschooling my kids. I figure it'll be a total hoot! I know between Matt and I, we'll give them a more complete education than what they would get from a public school.
Honestly, I would kill my children if I had to homeschool them! I simply do not have the patience for it. I happily leave it to the school and then help where I can. :)
I am right there with Lisa! I hate some of the the things my boys pick up from public schooling (don't think it's any different with the private sector, though). However, I know that I would not be able to a)have the patience with them and b)give them all they need. There are a great many benefits they get besides the educational ones. Now, if I found some mid-size group with a certified teacher, that might be something I consider, but the education of my kids is not something I'm willing to take lightly. After all, I'd never be able to get them past pre-algebra!
personally, i know that i can't offer my daughter what an experienced teacher could as far as education goes. plus you have to be very dedicated, and give up most of your day for schooling if you're really serious about it. my sister homeschools her daughter, and finds that alot of times she's not very motivated to do much schooling, and she sometimes ends up not doing anything all day. i don't think i could do it, but like others have said, it's totally an individual decision...only you know what's best for your family. you could also try it for a year and see how it goes? she's still pretty young and the schooling would be easier (not to say you couldn't handle more, i just know for myself that i can only handle up to 6th grade math!)
I guess the most important thing is that you are willing to care enough to want to be involved in your kids' educations- they can get a great education going to schools, public or private and as a parent you can give them the best opportunities and learning experiences possible, while still admitting your own limitations and biases. But you also have that element of the unknown with teachers and especially other students. Just be committed whatever you do and they will all be well educated and intelligent human beings! Good for you for caring so much already- too many people just send them off without another thought. U r an awesome mom and Ella is lucky to have you in her corner (I bet she will go far in life with her determination and quick wit!)
